Alcione Dias Nazareth is one of the most successful female sambists in Brazil who first claimed international recognition in the late 1970s, and has had 19 gold records and five platinum and a double platinum records.
In 1987 she dedicated to pope John Paul II and 500.000 people the song João de Deus, during the second visit of the pope unto Brazil.
