Who is Alison Bethel-McKenzie?

Alison Bethel-McKenzie is an American-born journalist and editor. Former Washington Bureau Chief for The Detroit News from 2000 to 2006, during the George Bush administration, she is currently deputy director of the International Press Institute in Vienna, Austria. An international consultant on media best practices and an international advocate for press freedom, she has also worked in The Bahamas, as managing editor of the Nassau Guardian newspaper, and in Accra, Ghana as a Knight International Journalism Fellow on behalf of the International Center for Journalists in Washington, D.C. Since 2009, Bethel-McKenzie has served as deputy director of the International Press Institute in Vienna, Austria. She is also on the Advisory Board of the Center for International Media Ethics.
