Who is Alonso Ancira?

Alonso Ancira is a Mexican businessman who is the controlling shareholder and Chairman of the Board of Altos Hornos de Mexico, Mexico's largest steel producer.

Ancira purchased AHMSA from the Mexican Government in 1991, when the government privatized the steel industry. AHMSA is one of the most important steel smelting industries in Latin America. At the time of the privatization, AHMSA employed 17,000 people and accounted for almost 30% of the business activity in the state of Coahuila.

In 2006 the magazine Vanguardia named Ancira as one of Mexico's "power elite," with a fortune of over $700 million.

On March 30, 2006, Ancira was elected as President of the Iron and Steel Mexican Chamber for the years 2006-2007.

Ancira is the Chairman of the Board of MATT.org a non for profit organization based in San Antonio, TX. Its mission is to bridge the gap of understanding between the United States and Mexico and increase the quality of life of its people so they can truly prosper together.
