Who was Amand Struve?

Amand Yegorovich Struve was a Baltic German military engineer and bridge specialist of Russian Empire. Lieutenant General.

He is famed for constructing the: Struve brothers foundry in Kolomna, Struve Railroad Bridge, central sewarage system, horse-pulled railway in Kiev, the Kiev tram, the first electric tramway in the Russian Empire, and a gas-powered street lighting system.

His relatives, which consisted of diplomats, engineeres, government officials, military personnel, and others, moved into Russia in the 17th century. When he finished the main artillery school, he entered the army service. But the army career didn't satisfy him and he went off to study at the Nikolayivsky Engineer Academy.
