Who was Augustus Holmes Kenan?
Augustus Holmes Kenan was a licensed attorney turned politician from Baldwin County, Georgia. Kenan was renowned for heroism in the Second Seminole War, leveraging his acclaim to win seats in both houses of the Georgia legislature. Kenan was a delegate to the Georgia Secession Convention from Baldwin County and was elected by that body, a delegate to the Southern Convention in Montgomery, Alabama where he signed the Confederate Constitution at the first Confederate Provisional Congress. Kenan also served as a Representative from Georgia in the Confederate Congress from 1862–64.
