Who was Aurora Miranda?

Aurora Miranda da Cunha was a Brazilian entertainer. Miranda began her career at the age of 18 in 1933. She appeared in several films, including The Three Caballeros, where she danced with Donald Duck and José Carioca, singing the song, "Os Quindins de Yayá".

In 1934 she recorded Cidade Maravilhosa, a song for the 1935 carnaval written by André Filho who also sings on the recording, about the "marvelous city" of Rio de Janeiro, "the heart of my Brasil". The song was to become the official Rio hymn, and its title became the nickname for Rio.

Her sister was Carmen Miranda.
