Who was Austin Letheridge Bender?
A. L. “Chunk” Bender was the mayor of the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee from 1969 to 1971 after serving as Commissioner for many years. Due to health problems he declined a re-election bid. While the office of mayor in Chattanooga is officially non-partisan, he was a member of the Democratic Party.
