Who was Balavant Apte?

Balavant Apte: बळवंत आपटे was a politician from Bharatiya Janata Party and a member of the Parliament of India representing Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He was a MA LLM. He died on 17 July 2012 at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai.

He was popularly known as Bal Apte or Balasaheb Apte and was one of national vice presidents of the party. He had been actively involved in the Legal process of the Ram Jambhoomi movement. He shot to fame after the BJP's defeat in the 2009 General elections as he was appointed to frame a report on the reasons of the Party's loss, which famously became known as the "Bal Apte" report which was a bug critique on the functioning of the party and indicted many top leaders of the party in an indirect way. He was National President, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and was active in ABVP for 38 Years. He was Additional Advocate General,State of Maharashtra. He was a Senior Advocate of Supreme Court of India.
