Who is Bob Velke?

Robert "Bob" Velke is a computer programmer, owner of Wholly Genes Software, and creator of The Master Genealogist, genealogy software.

Velke graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Criminology in 1985 and applied his early computer course work and experience to working on database concepts and mapping for that field. He later taught at the university on the same subjects until 2000.

Velke began to develop computerized databases in the 1980s. He was a member of the Board of Directors of GENTECH, a participant in its Lexicon Working Group, and a co-author of the GENTECH Genealogical Data Model. He has been involved in the Member Ancestor Chart and other National Genealogical Society projects and currently serves the organization on the GENTECH Advisory Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Genealogical Society. He is also the president of Archive CD Books USA, LLC and SegTours, LLC.
