Valentyn Volodymyrovych Bugrym is a journalist and academician who is active in leading the media, both print and broadcast, in his home country of the Ukraine. He was born on the 14th of November, 1952, in a family of workers on Sumschina, in the village Khmelov. His mother, Bygrym Antonina Ivanivna, was a dentist. His mother is a descendant of the famous Ukrainian writer Mikhail Staits'kiy. His father, Bygrym Volodymir Petrovych from a Cossack kin, took part in the Great Patriotic War and was awarded 4 battle orders and 15 medals.
