Who is Coffin Joe?
Joseph Patrick Spurgeon (better known as Coffin Joe) (born 21 January 1986), is the drummer of garage punk band, The Horrors. Spurgeon spent his childhood years growing up in the small county town of Clare, in rural Suffolk. He attended the local middle school and later the nearby Stoke College, a private school in Stoke-by-Clare, where he learned to play the drums under the tuition of Roger O'Dell (drummer for jazz-funk band Shakatak) and music teacher Adrian Marple. At this time he was an aficionado of extreme sports, instructing school children in skiing and rock climbing and taking part in skateboarding until giving up due to an ankle injury. After leaving Stoke College, Spurgeon studied at Colchester Sixth Form College for two years. He became a founding member of The Horrors in 2005 in Southend-on-Sea.
