Who is Dave Lanphear?

Dave Lanphear is an American comic book letterer, fontographer, cartoonist, storyboard artist and designer.His career began as a newspaper cartoonist and illustrator in 1985 in California. Between 1985 and 1989, he won 3 California newspaper association editorial cartooning awards.By 1991, he'd begun drawing for independent comic book publishers, but it was his lettering work that provided him his professional break. In 1993, he lettered in-house for Malibu Comics on their Ultraverse, Eternity, and Malibu imprints. He also freelanced as an inker on titles, notably two Robotech licensed books.By 1994, he began digitally lettering at Richard Starkings' Comicraft. Over the next 5 years there, Lanphear was credited with work for every major comic book publisher. Highlights of his work there include Heroes Reborn: Fantastic Four, Heroes Reborn: Iron Man, Wildstorm/Cliffhanger's Battlechasers, Danger Girl, WildCATs/X-Men, and exclusive work for publishers Valiant/Acclaim, Chaos!, and many others.In 1999, he created the in-house digital lettering department for Florida comic book publisher CrossGen Entertainment, and was also the Design Director and later, an assistant Art Director. When CrossGen ceased operations in June 2004, Lanphear had already been crafting a new studio by permission, Artmonkeys Studios.Artmonkeys Studios is a virtual studio powered by a deep network of fellow freelance writers, artists, producers, animators, designers and other entertainment craftsmen. Since 2005, Lanphear and Artmonkeys Studios have worked for Disney Children's/Hyperion Publishing, Marvel Entertainment, DC's CMX, Dark Horse, Viz/Shojo, Desperado, Boom! Studios, and Zondervan. MyFonts.com lists two fonts designed by Dave Lanphear, CCHellshock and CCMonologous, but he has also designed proprietary fonts for several publishers between 1998-2008.In 2007, Lanphear was letterer for two Jack Kirby projects, Galactic Bounty Hunter, and a lost issue of Kirby's classic run on Fantastic Four, written by Stan Lee.
