The fiction that Dr John Blow, the Restoration composer, was an ancestor of Detmar Blow was created in 1910 by Detmar's fiance Winifred, a member of the aristocratic Tollemache family, in order to obtain a license for her marriage to Detmar in St. Paul's Cathedral.
