Who was Dummy Deegan?

William Joseph Deegan was a pitcher in Major League Baseball. He pitched in two games for the 1901 New York Giants.

Deegan, nicknamed "Dummy" for being a deaf-mute, was one of three pitchers on the Giants staff with that nickname.
