Who is Eckart von Klaeden?

Eckart Peter Hans von Klaeden is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union, serving as Minister of State at the German Chancellery since 28 October 2009. Klaeden has been a Member of lower house of the German parliament, the Bundestag, since 1994, and has been spokesman for foreign policy of the CDU/CSU faction since 2005 and treasurer of the CDU since 2006.

Eckart von Klaeden took his Abitur at the Emperor William Gymnasium in Hanover in 1985, served his military service from 1985 to 1987 and became a Corvette Captain of the Reserves. He went on to study law at the universities of Würzburg and Göttingen, taking his first state exam in 1993 and his second in 1996. He is Protestant and a member of the presidium of the Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentag, a Protestant organisation. Eckart von Klaeden is married and has three daughters.

He became a member of the Junge Union in 1983. Since 2004, he has been a member of the national board of the CDU, the Bundesvorstand. In 2008 and 2009, he participated at the Bilderberg Conference.
