Who was Ed Ocampo?
Edgardo L. Ocampo, also known as Ed Ocampo and Eddie Ocampo, was a Filipino basketball player and head coach.
Ocampo was born in Pampanga, Philippines on October 5, 1938. He played college ball for the Ateneo de Manila University, where he led the team to back-to-back NCAA men's basketball championships. Later, he played for the YCO Painters in the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association, the top basketball league of the Philippines at that time. Ocampo was a regular member of the Philippines' national basketball team, where he represented the country in the Olympics four times.
In later years, Ocampo coached Royal Tru-Orange, the Toyota Super Corollas, Shell and Pepsi in the Philippine Basketball Association. He won a total of four PBA championships as a coach.
Ocampo died in 1999 at the age of 61.
Ocampo was posthumously inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame on November 17, 2013.
