Who is Edson Cholbi Nascimento?

Edson Cholbi Nascimento, usually known simply as Edinho, is a former Brazilian football goalkeeper. He is the son of football legend Pelé with his first wife Rosemeri Cholbi Nascimento, who is of Brazilian-Argentinian background.

Edson was convicted of murder in 1999 - replacing the earlier charge of manslaughter, for killing Pedro Simoes Neto in Santos in October 1992, as a result of reckless car racing.

He played for four clubs, Santos, Portuguesa Santista, São Caetano and Ponte Preta before retiring from professional football in 1999, at the age of 29.

His greatest achievement was playing in the Santos side that finished runner-up in the Série A in 1995.

Since retiring from football, he has had numerous legal troubles. In the early 1990s, Edinho was convicted to six years in jail due to his involvement in a street race in Santos that ended with one death. That conviction, however, was later was annulled. In July 2005, he was absolved of this crime.

Edinho, along with 50 other people, was arrested on June 6, 2005 in a police operation to dismantle a gang of drug traffickers, after an 8-month investigation in the city of Santos. Edinho said that he was innocent, but addicted to marijuana.
