Who was Edvard Eriksen?
Edvard Eriksen was a Danish-Icelandic sculptor. He is best known as the creator of the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen 1909-1913.
He apprenticed as a wood carver, after which he trained at the Royal Academy 1894-99. Among his other works are allegorical statues of Christian 9th and Queen Louise's sarcophagi in Roskilde Cathedral. Edvard Eriksen taught at the Royal Academy between 1908–19 and was a conservator at Thorvaldsen Museum 1930-53.
