Hernandez worked as a Hollywood actor, best known for Price of Glory.

As a Democrat, he was first elected on January 13, 2009, in a special recall election to replace then Mayor Pro Tem Julie Ruelas. Hernandez was sworn in on January 20, 2009, to serve the remainder of Ruelas' term.
