Who is Felipe Luciano?

Felipe Luciano is an American poet, community activist, journalist, media personality, and politician. He is of Afro-Puerto Rican heritage.

Luciano served time in prison for manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of a Brooklyn teenager in the early 1960s. Following his release, he attended Queens College and became a member of the Original Last Poets.

He co-founded the New York chapter of the Young Lords, whose legal council was a young Jerry Rivers and served as its chair. The original Young Lords in Chicago developed because their Puerto Rican community was being gentrified.The Young Lords Party in NYC which originated within the Young Lords Movement, reportedly began as a student political movement that later coaleasced with several other New York branches of the Young Lords to form the New York Regional Chapter.

Luciano later became a radio, television, and print journalist, and won several awards. He is President and founder of Luciano Productions, Inc.
