Frank Hatton

Who was Frank Hatton?

Frank Hatton was an American politician and newspaperman.

Born in Cambridge, Ohio, Hatton worked in the newspaper business in Burlington, Iowa. Identifying himself with the Republican Party, primarily the Stalwart faction, he served as Assistant Postmaster General before being promoted to Postmaster General in the cabinet of Chester A. Arthur in 1884.

He worked unsuccessfully to renominate President Arthur at the 1884 Republican National Convention and returned to the newspaper business after the end of his term as Postmaster General in 1885. Hatton served as editor of The Washington Post until he was stricken with a massive stroke at his desk, dying two days after his 48th birthday. He was interred in Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
