Oldenburg speelt al piano vanaf zijn vijfde jaar. Hij studeerde piano aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag bij Theo Bruins en daarna aan de Juilliard School of Music in New York bij Beveridge Webster en in Brussel bij Eduardo del Pueyo.
