Who is Gael Mackie?

Gael Briane Mackie is a Canadian gymnast and Olympic athlete. Gael came to prominence on the Canadian gymnastics scene by winning the senior national championship at age 14. She currently resides in the city of Coquitlam.

Mackie competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece in the Women's Team and the Individual All Around. Gael is coached by Vladimir and Svetlana Lashin at Omega Gymnastics. Her father William Mackie twice qualified for the Canadian Olympic team in Men's Gymnastics, but injuries prevented him from competing both times. Mackie's younger sister Charlotte is also a promising gymnast who made the 2009 World Gymnastics Championships all-around final as a reserve.

Mackie has earned the titles of 2001 Jr. National Vault Champion, 2002 Jr. National Vault, Floor, and All Around Champion, 2002 Sr. Elite Canada Uneven Bars Champion, 2003 Sr. National All Around Champion, and 2003 Elite Canada Beam Champion. In addition to making the 2004 Canadian Olympic Team, Mackie was a 2003 World Team Member, 2003 Pam Am Games Team Member, and 2002 Pan Am Games Team Member.
