Who was George Pyrounakis?
George Pyrounakis is a Greek Orthodox priest. Pyrounakis was born in 1910 in Adamas, on the Greek island of Milos, to a family originally from Crete. Pyrounakis is renowned for his charity work in Eleusis, his support of poor children, his preaching against Greece's military dictatorship of 1967-74, and his sermons and writings emphasising the need for spiritual awakening. Pyrounakis died in Athens in 1988.
