Who was Habte Giyorgis?
Fitawrari Habte Giorgis Dinagde was the Ethiopian Minister of War during the reigns of Menelik II, Iyasu V, Zauditu and Haile Selassie. He is from the Chebo people, a mix of the Oromo and Gurage of Ethiopia, and played a leading role in several battles. He was also a central figure in the coup which removed Taitu from power during the period of Menelik II's incompetency as well as the 1916 coup which deposed Iyasu V. Dinagde means Keeper.
From 1909 to 1927 he was Chief Minister of the Cabinet to the Emperor of Ethiopia.
A bridge in Oromia district and a street in Addis Ababa are named after him. He is renowned for his wisdom and his military skills. He has participated in many battles including Adwa.
