Who was Hasan Fehmi?
Hasan Fehmi Bey was the editor-in-chief of Serbestî, an Ottoman newspaper, in which he wrote articles against the Committee of Union and Progress. He was murdered on the evening of April 6, 1909, as he was crossing the Galata Bridge in Istanbul, by unidentified assailants.
Hasan Fehmi Bey, belonged to an ethnic Albanian family in Istanbul and was the first of many Turkish journalists who have been murdered out of political motives.
His grave is in the graveyard at the tomb of Sultan Mahmud II on Divan Yolu Caddesi in Istanbul.
