Who was Herm Schaefer?
Herm Schaefer was starting guard on Indiana's 1940 NCAA championship team. In 1941 he became player/coach of the Ft.Wayne Zollner Pistons of the NBL. He won 2 world championships with the Pistons in 1943 and 1946. During WWII, he won national all service championships at Great Lakes NTC and then atBainbridge NTC, rejoining the Pistons after the war.In 1947 he joined the Indianapolis Kautsky's of the NBL as player/coachand won another world championship. He joined the Minneapolis Lakers in 1948 and as captain, helped lead the Laers to 3 consecutive world championships. He became head coach of the NBA's Indianapolis Olympians in 1952 and was consensus NBA coach of the year.
