Who was Iajuddin Ahmed?
Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed was the 18th President of Bangladesh, serving from 6 September 2002 until 12 February 2009. From late October 2006 to January 2007, he also served as Chief Advisor of the caretaker government. From October 2006 to early 2009, his responsibilities as President included the Defense Ministry of the caretaker government.
With a doctorate in soil science, Ahmed became a full professor at the University of Dhaka and chairman of the department. Beginning in 1991, he started accepting appointments to public positions, as chairman of the Public Service Commission and of the University Grants Commission. In 2002 he won election as president. In 2004 he helped establish the private university, Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology.
