Who is Ian Filby?

Ian Filby is a retired English professional football striker who played professionally in South Africa and North America.

In 1979, he signed with the Sacramento Gold of the American Soccer League, playing two seasons with the second division club. In 1979, he led the league in scoring, scored the only goal in the Gold's 1-0 victory over the Columbus Magic in the championship game and was a first team all star. At the end of the 1980 season, the Gold traded Filby to the Pennsylvania Stoners. In 1981, he returned to the NASL with the California Surf. After retiring from playing, he remained in norther California and continued to play in the amateur Central California Soccer League.
