Who was Jamalul Kiram III?
Jamalul Kiram III was a claimant Sultan of the Sultanate of Sulu. He was an unsuccessful candidate for senator in the 2007 Philippine Elections. Self-described as "the poorest sultan in the world", Kiram revived the North Borneo dispute between the Philippines and Malaysia which led to the 2013 Lahad Datu standoff.
