Who was James N. Ashmore?

James Newton Ashmore was an American football, basketball and baseball coach. He served as the head football coach at the State College of Washington, Millikin University, Western Maryland College and DePauw University, compiling a career college football record of 61–46–9. Ashmore was also the head basketball coach at Washington State, Millikin, the University of Colorado at Boulder, the University of Iowa, DePauw and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, tallying a career college basketball mark of 178–117. In addition, he was the head baseball coach at Washington State, Millikin, Iowa, DePauw and North Carolina amassing a career college baseball record of 170–99–6.
