Who was Juan de Castillo?

João de Castilho was an Iberian architect and is recognized in Portugal as the greatest architect of the time and one of the most largest in Europe. He was born in Castillo Siete Villas, actually Arnuero.

He started his career working in Burgos and Seville. In 1507 D. Diego de Sousa, archbishop of Braga, asked him to works in the cathedral of Braga and on the church of Saint John the Baptist in Vila do Conde.

He worked in five World Heritage Sites:

Convent of Christ

Jerónimos Monastery

El Jadida

Batalha Monastery

Alcobaça Monastery.
