Who was John Gayer (died 1711)?
Sir John Gayer (died 1711) was an English governor of Bombay for the East India Company. He assumed the office on 17 May 1694; he officially left office on November 1704. Gayer's tenure as Governor was dominated by difficulties with the English Company Trading to the East Indies, set up in 1698; and he was kept imprisoned for much of it.
