Who is John Higgins?

John Higgins, MBE is a Scottish professional snooker player from Wishaw. He turned professional in 1992, and is one of the most successful players in the modern history of the sport.

Higgins's career accomplishments include winning four World Championship titles, three UK Championship titles, and two Masters titles. In terms of world titles in the modern era, he is fifth behind Stephen Hendry, Steve Davis, Ray Reardon and Ronnie O'Sullivan. With 25 ranking titles, he is fourth behind Hendry, Davis, and O'Sullivan. As a prolific break-builder, Higgins has compiled more than 550 century breaks in professional tournament play, placing him third behind Hendry and O'Sullivan. He has also compiled 7 competitive maximum breaks, placing him third behind O'Sullivan and Hendry.

In 2010, an investigation into a sting operation by the News of the World tabloid newspaper found that Higgins had failed to report, and had given the impression of agreeing with, an invitation to breach the sport's betting rules. The WPBSA banned him from the sport for six months and fined him £75,000. He returned to professional competition midway through the 2010/2011 season.
