Who is John Cavell?
John Kingsmill Cavell was the ninth Suffragan Bishop of Southampton.
Cavell was educated at Sir Roger Manwood's School and Queens' College, Cambridge. Ordained in 1940 he began his career with Curacies at Christ Church, Folkestone and Addington Parish Church, Croydon. He was then successively Secretary of the Church Missionary Society, Vicar of Christ Church, Cheltenham and then Rural Dean of Plymouth before ascending to the Episcopate -a post he held from 1972 until 1984. In retirement he continues to serve the Church as an Assistant Bishop within the Diocese of Salisbury.
