Who is Julian Grill?
Julian Fletcher Grill is a former member of the Australian Labor Party and Member of the Parliament of Western Australia as the Member for Eyre.
He was educated at the University of Western Australia and graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Laws. He was admitted to the Western Australian Bar in 1966. He was originally a barrister and solicitor with specialty in mining and resources.
Grill was elected as the Member for Electoral district of Yilgarn-Dundas in Western Australia's Lower House in 1977. Due to redistributions the seat changed a number of times, eventually becoming the Electoral district of Eyre. He was re-elected in 1981, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1993 and 1996. He was promoted to the front bench of the Burke government in 1983, holding ministerial positions until 1990 including the senior portfolios of Transport, The North West, Regional Development and Economic Development, Trade and Tourism. Grill did not contest the February 2001 general election.
He was expelled from the Australian Labor Party in June 2005 for making a $5000 donation to the National Party of Australia in the lead-up to the 2005 Western Australian state election.
