Who is Kalyan Singh Kalvi?

Kalyan Singh Kalvi was a politician from the Indian state of Rajasthan. He hailed from the village of Kalvi in Nagaur district, Rajasthan. He was Agriculture minister of Rajasthan in Chief Minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's cabinet. Later, he was elected to the Ninth Lok Sabha in the general election of 1989 from Barmer Lok Sabha constituency. He was close confidant of late shri Chandrashekhar and played a key role in formation of the Chandrashekhar government after the fall of V.P.Singh government. He became a cabinet minister in 1991, holding the energy portfolio. He died soon after.

Kalvi was a leader of the Janata Dal political party and also prominent and popular in the rural areas of Rajasthan as well as in the Rajput community. Leaders like Devi Singh Bhati, Rajendra Singh Rathore etc., currently in BJP were groomed by Kalyan Singh Kalvi. His son Lokendra Singh Kalvi is a leader of Congress party in Rajasthan.. Lokendra Kalvi is the founder of Shri Rajput Karni Sena in Rajasthan which as per claims has more than 7 lac members in state. His grand son Bhavani Kalvi is a Polo player of excellence representing India in Polo tournaments. Another grand son Pratap Kalvi is an ace marksman of repute.
