Who is Kathy Butterly?
Kathy Butterly born in Amityville, New York 1963 is an American sculptor.
In 2005, she lived in New York.
Her work has been compared to that of George Ohr, manifested in "a penchant for crumpled shapes, twisted and pinched openings, and making . . . 'no two alike.' " Butterly's work consists of ornately decorated porcelain sculptures that suggest feminine personalities.
She received her undergraduate degree from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1986. Her first solo exhibition was at Tibor de Nagy Gallery in New York. Kathy Butterly has won the 2009 Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant for Sculptors and Painters.
Kathy Butterly won the 2012 Smithsonian American Art Museum's 10th Contemporary Artist Award. In 2013 she won the Visionary Woman Award from Moore College of Art and Design.
