Who is Kaushik Basu?

Kaushik Basu is an Indian economist and academic who is Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank. He is on leave from Cornell University where he is the C. Marks Professor of International Studies and Professor of Economics. Prior to that he was the Chairman of the Department of Economics and Director, Center for Analytic Economics at Cornell University. Till July 2012 he served as the Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India. He is also the Jury Chair for the Infosys Prize 2013 for the discipline of Social Sciences.
