Who was Ken Silvestri?
Kenneth Joseph Silvestri was an American backup catcher in Major League Baseball. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. From 1939 through 1951, he played for the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies. Silvestri was a switch-hitter and threw right-handed.
Following his playing career, he managed in the minor leagues, and coached for the Phillies, Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves and the White Sox. He also managed the Atlanta Braves for the final three games of the 1967 season after manager Billy Hitchcock was fired.
In an eight-season career, Silvestri was a .217 hitter with five home runs and 25 RBI in 102 games played.
Silvestri died in Tallahassee, Florida at age 75.
