Who was La Argentinita?
La Argentinita is the stage name of Encarnación López Júlvez, a dancer and singer in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Among her performances was as the Butterfly in the premiere of Federico García Lorca's El maleficio de la mariposa. She partnered with Frederico Rey who, as Freddy Wittop, later enjoyed a successful and award-winning career as a theatrical costume designer.
