Who was Lady Abdullah Haroon?

Lady Abdullah Haroon, real name Nusrat Khanum, was a rich Socialite of pre-Partition India. She was born in a Shia family in Iran but later settled in Karachi where in 1914 she was married local business man & politician Sir Abdullah Haroon. She founded the organization Anjuman-i-Khawateen to improve the social and economic condition of the women of Sindh. In 1938, she was nominated to the Women's Central Subcommittee of the All India Muslim League and later she was also elected President of the Sindh Provincial Women's Subcommitte.

Lady Haroon was a prominent woman of Sindh. She was a devoted worker of the Pakistan movement. She was closely associated with the Quaid-i-Azamfrom whom she always received guidance. She was an active social worker and patronized a social club in Delhi established after her name as Nusrat club. Nusrat Club soon became the centre of the activities of the Muslim women where political matters were discussed. She was also associated with a number of social organizations. She was elected as the President of all India Women Muslim League in 1943. She was the Vice-President of All Pakistan women's Association founded by Begum Ra'ana Liaquat Ali in 1945.
