Who was Lemuel J. Bowden?

Lemuel Jackson Bowden was an American lawyer and politician from Williamsburg, Virginia.

Bowden served as mayor of Williamsburg, Virginia from 1862 to 1863 and represented Virginia in the United States Senate in 1863 as a member of the Republican Party.

Bowden died of smallpox while in office at Washington, D.C. and is buried in the Congressional Cemetery there.
