Who is Mariëtte Hamer?

Mariëtte Iris Hamer is a Dutch politician and former civil servant, educator and trade union leader. As a member of the Labour Party she has been an MP since 19 May 1998. From January 2008 to June 2010 she was Parliamentary group leader. She focuses on matters of labour economics, day care and emancipation. In the past she focused on matters of education, social affairs.

Hamer studied linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. She was co-founder and chairwoman of the National Students' Trade Union and worked as an educator and at the Dutch Ministry of Education.
