Who is Michael Allenby, 3rd Viscount Allenby?

Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Jaffray Hynman Allenby, 3rd Viscount Allenby is a British politician and hereditary peer. He is the great-nephew of Edmund Allenby, 1st Viscount Allenby, the famous commander during the Second Boer War and the First World War.

Allenby was educated at Eton and at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was commissioned a lieutenant in the 11th Hussars, which was stationed in Malaya between 1953 and 1956. He then served as aide-de-camp to the Governor of Cyprus, Brigade Major of the 51st Brigade in Hong Kong and as commander of the Territorial Army Royal Yeomanry.

After inheriting the title Viscount Allenby, of Megiddo and of Felixstowe in the county of Suffolk, Lord Allenby served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords from 1993 to 1999, and was elected in the latter year to remain in the House of Lords.

He is patron of the British-Israel-World Federation, and he has been aiding and consulting current excavations at Megiddo.
