Who is Mir Shamsuddin?
Mir Syed Shamsuddin the Iraqi was a Sufi missionary who converted Hindus to Islam. Mir Syed Shamsuddin was a disciple of Shah Qasim Anwer, and came from Iraq to spread islam in kashmir. He converted an well known person to Islam, who re-named himself Malik Moosa Raina. Raina gifted Mir Syed Shamsuddin the area which is today known as Zadibal, in Srinagar. The Descendants of Mir Syyed Shamsuddin still live in that area and are called Markadars. Some of his descendants went to Budgam and came to be known as Agas. Mir Syed Shamsuddin died in Zadibal and was buried at Astan e shareef, Zadibal, but due to political opposition his coffin was taken to Chadoora tehsil in Budgam district. His son Syed Daniyal took over his job after his death and is buried at Dab, a village in Ganderbal.
