Who is Monte McNaughton?
Monte McNaughton is a Canadian politician, elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the 2011 election. He represents the electoral district of Lambton—Kent—Middlesex as a member of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party caucus.
At age 20, McNaughton was elected to municipal council in his hometown of Newbury, Ontario and served three terms. He represented the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party in the Lambton—Kent—Middlesex riding in the 2007 election and finished second with 36% of the vote, losing to Liberal Maria Van Bommel. He returned in 2011 and defeated Van Bommel, taking 46% of the vote.
McNaughton was general manager and co-owner of McNaughton Family Shopping Centre in Newbury, a business operated by the McNaughton family since 1948. He has served as chair of the Newbury Economic Development Committee and was president of the Strathroy and District Chamber of Commerce in 2009-10.
On September 13, 2013 Ontario PC leader Tim Hudak named McNaughton Official Opposition Critic for Labour after dismissing Randy Hillier from the role for violating caucus confidentiality.
