Who is Najeeb Jung?

Najeeb Jung a former Indian Administrative Service joined the Indian Administrative Services in 1973 and worked in different capacities in Madhya Pradesh and with the Government of India. He is currently working as Vice-Chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia, a central university in Delhi. He has been appointed as the next Lieutenant Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi. Mr. Jung would be replacing another former IAS officer Mr. Tejinder Khanna. He quit the service after his stint as joint secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He is currently pursuing his PhD on energy economics from Oxford University. On September-30-2010 he endorsed the judgement of Allahabad High Court on Babri Masjid Ram Janmabhoomi suit.

He has published several monographs and reports on the energy sector and is a regular contributor to national newspapers on education and social issues. He is presently the Chairman of a Core Committee of Vice-Chancellors appointed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to examine various aspects of higher education, Chairman of a Committee to review the existing schemes for enhancing participation of minorities in higher education, Member of the Special Task Force setup by the Ministry of Home Affairs to suggest developmental options for the Jammu region of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, Member of the Senate of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, and several other Committees at the national level.
