Who is Nitin Gadkari?

Nitin Gadkari; is an Indian politician and the current Transport minister under the BJP central cabinet in the 16th Loksabha. Mr Gadkari was appointed to head BJP in December 2009 after the party suffered a defeat in the general elections earlier that year. He is also known for the works during his tenure as a Public Works Department Minister in the state of Maharashta when he constructed a series of roads, highways and flyovers across the state including the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai–Pune Expressway.

In 2012, following an RTI disclosure, a number of irregularities were discovered re: investments in the Purti group, which Gadkari had founded. It was widely reported that this may have been why he failed to be re-elected as BJP president in January 2013. In May 2013, the Inome Tax department assessed the firm as having evaded Rs. 7 crores via improper means. Currently, he is Member of the 16th Lok Sabha from Nagpur constituency.
