Who is Noble Chummar?

Noble C. Chummar (born May 25, 1975) is a Canadian corporate lawyer and partner of the Toronto law firm Cassels, Brock Blackwell. Noble acts for Canadian and international clients in developing relationships on many public-private partnership transactions at municipal, provincial, and federal government levels.[1] The Canadian national daily newspaper, The National Post, identified Noble Chummar as one of Toronto's rising power players from the Indo-Canadian community where he was named the Powerhouse.[2]Noble Chummar was born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of Catholic immigrants from Kerala, India. In 1992, at the age of seventeen, Noble Chummar was awarded the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal by the then Governor General of Canada, Ray Hnatyshyn for voluntary contributions to his community and to Canada. He received his Bachelor of Laws, LL.B from the London School of Economics(LSE).[3] He received his Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2002.Noble Chummaris a member of the Ontario Liberal Party and the Liberal Party of Canada. In 1999, he ran for a seat on the Toronto city council and was endorsed by former Toronto Mayor, Mel Lastman and the Toronto Police Association.[4] He was defeated by David Soknacki, who later became Torontos Budget Chief.[5] Noble Chummar also worked for The Hon. Dalton McGuinty and traveled with the Premier and his provincial campaign team across the province during the provincial elections of 2003 and 2007. Federally, Noble was involved in the 2004 and 2006 federal elections in Canada and travelled with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin and his campaign team. He also acted as a legal advisor to the Paul Martin leadership convention planning committee. During the 2006 federal liberal leadership, Noble Chummar supported Michael Ignatieff. Noble Chummars law partner is former Ontario Premier, The Hon. David Peterson. The two acted as legal advisors for the Government of Canada on the transfer of the right to manage the Northwest Territories $60 billion worth of natural resources from Ottawa to government of the North West Territories and Aboriginal groups. [6]In 2000 Noble Chummar worked alongside US President Bill Clintons former advisor and Democratic spin doctor, James Carville, as a campaign aide in the Trinidad and Tobago general election, 2000.[7]Noble is involved in various community efforts. He has served on the Board of the Molson Grand Prix, Drivers Fundraiser, and was appointed to the Board of Directors for the CFL Grey Cup held in Toronto, the Providence Hospital[8] and the ReelWorld International Film Festival Foundation.
